Water Level / Flow: 700 to 800 . Lower Provo River Flows

Fishing Pressure: moderate

Fishing: Good

Hatches: PMD's

Best Techniques: Nymphing, Sowbugs, PMD nymphs

Best Times: Mid morning through afternoon.

Best Water Types to fish: Current seams, holes, and riffles

Forecast for the next few weeks: Expect the river to fish well and stay at these levels.

Other Comments: ..Road construction around Deer Creek Dam has caused some delay at times, but most closures are complete for now. Click here for up to date construction information. Etiquette is always an issue here as it seems on most Utah rivers. We all have to share it, so please try to be respectful of other anglers.

Water Location: Middle Provo River

Click here to request a guided trip.

Water Level / Flow:  Current streamfow is 750 to 250cfs. Check this for all Middle Provo River Flows Check this for USGS Real Time Flows

Fishing Pressure: moderate

Fishing : Good

Hatches:Green Drakes, caddis, PMD's

Best Techniques: Nymphing, and Dry fly fishing

Best Times: Early through mid morning and mid afternoon to evening

Best Water Types to fish: Seams and the big deep holes. Slower water areas and spots in the sun.

Forecast for the next few weeks:Fishing is good but the flow is unpredictable the Drakes will happen soon!

Other Comments:  Etiquette is always an issue on this popular fishery and we hear about poor behavior all the time. Nobody owns the river or a hole and there truly is plenty of water if people spread out. We all have to share the river so please try to be respectful of other anglers. If someone is working an area; don't wade through, ask first. If you can hit someone with your cast you are too close!

Although the situation is improving as habitat stabilizes, there is still an overpopulation issue. If you or someone you know likes to eat fish please harvest them (you are allowed 2 under 15 inches). Catch and release is not always the only way to go.

MIDDLE PROVO RESTORATION PROJECT NEWS

For most current update and more extensive information check this link:

http://www.mitigationcommission.gov/prrp/prrp_bboard.html

The previously completed sections have fished very well. The more recently completed sections are coming along, but the sections completed first are the best as they are becoming pretty established. Each section gets better with more time. The Provo river continues to be one of the best in the country and as the construction sections become more established it will just get better.

The entire project includes reconstructing the river channel to match a more natural character with riffle to pool water and large meanders, bends and side channels. The project area includes just below Jordanelle dam all the way down to the Heber railroad bridge above Charleston. For the most current information regarding the Provo River project, you can check the web site above.

Other Comments: With the exception of the small stretch of water above Jordanelle reservoir in Rockcliff state park and higher up in the National Forest Land this section of river is largely private and inaccessible to the public. Unlike Many states, in Utah you can own the river bottom, so if you are in the river you cannot walk through properly posted private property. Please avoid wading through spawning beds!

Water Level / Flow: . Current flow is averaging 1500 cfs a day. Flows should remain consistent for the next couple weeks with afternoon power generation increases in the Flow.

Fishing: excellent

Hatches: Cicada's, Crickets, PMD's, and Yellow Sallies

Best Techniques: Big Dries, Dry and Dropper

Best Times: Early morning through mid day, evening periods when the sun is on the water.

Best Water Types to fish: Everywhere in the wet stuff will usually work

Forecast for the next few weeks: The fishing is as good as it gets and it is time to go the next month will be epic. Giant Cicada's and everything else lumped in is pretty good also.

Other Comments: New Zealand mud snails have been confirmed in this section of the Green. This exotic species competes for the same food as insects which then displaces the insects that trout feed on. In order to prevent spreading these invaders to other waters, wash all equipment with bleach and allow it to completely dry (drying and freezing seem to kill them) before entering other waters.

Practice good etiquette. This is a large river with plenty of room especially this time of the year, if you can hit another angler with your cast you are too close!
