Our Utah fly fishing reports offer a brief overview of current conditions on our waters. You'll find fishing reports for the main Utah rivers and streams that we guide on and fish regularly. Reports for the Lower Provo, Middle Provo, Weber River, Green River and Small Streams are included.
We write the reports based on our daily experiences on the water and information received from customers. We update the reports as conditions change and our schedule permits. As a result, you may see multiple reports on the same destination if we haven't updated one of the other destinations recently. Current Conditions Summary The Middle Provo is flowing at 310 CFS, and below the River Road Bridge it is about 250 CFS. Nymphing is still the most consistent fishing. Fishing from sun-up to sun-down has been good. Dry fly opportunity is best midmorning on. The best dry fly opportunity over all has been the PMD hatches above river road. Flow & Water Discharge: 310 CFS (Cubic Feet per Second). Below the Diversion 250cfs Clarity: Clear Water Temp: Holding steady at 50 (°F). Outlook: Good early fall fishing! Weather & Timing Best Window: When the sun is up! Weather: mid 70s. Strategy: Anytime you can see. Its a good time to be out there. But the best fishing is from mid morning on. Hatches & Bug Activity The main activity of the river right now is PMDs and midges. Midges: Seen hatching most mornings. PMDS: Expect these most mornings from 11am-3pm Recommended Flies Nymphs (Sub-surface) Sow Bugs: #18-22 (Grey, Tan, Rainbow) Midges: #22-26 (KF Flasher, Stalcup Midge, WD-40s, Bling Midges). Junk Food: San Juan worms, small red annelids PMD Nymphs: #18-22 (Split Case, Quilldagons, Mayhems, BTS nymph, Juju Baetis). Caddis: #18-22 (Swing Caddis, Translucent Pupa, Helio Caddis, Hares ears) Dries (Surface) Midges: #18-20 (Griffith’s Gnat, Mother Shucker, Cluster Midge). PMD Dries: #18-22 (Film Critic, Rusty Spinner, CDC Thorax PMD, Drymerger, Tiny Cream Colored midges). Terrestrials: #12-18 (Bionic Ant, CDC Ant) Streamers Leeches/Buggers: #10-14 (White, Olive, Black) Jigged/Dead drift Streamers: Smaller Streamers fished dead drift or under an indicator have been picking up

Current Conditions Summary Still double peak flows currently happening. Highs at 2800cfs with lows at 2100cfs and 1800cfs. Pseudo's (20-24) and Tricos (22) are the main hatch bugs currently. But thankfully theres still fish willing to eat terrestials. Try smaller ants, crickets and beetles. In case of emergency dont be afraid to still thow out some big foam such as a sz8 Chubby Chernobyl. On the nymph side scuds/sow bugs and midges continue to do well just keep fishing smaller sizes. Not a bad idea to start throwing streamers especially duing low light/cloudy days. Discharge: Double peak between 1800cfs and 2800cfs Clarity: Crystal clear Section A, Red Creek has been going when the thuderstorms reach it. Water Temp: Between 58°F and 59°F. Outlook: Flow schedule can and probably will change. Weather & Timing Best Window: 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Weather: Highs in the High-70s, lows dipping into the low-50s. Strategy: Fishing has been good at no matter the flow. Nymphing and streamers have been good during the periods of flow raising and dropping. Dry fly has been good all day but best during the low flow periods. Hatches & Bug Activity Tricos: Sporadic throughout the day and more prolific in the evenings. Psuedos: Sporadic as well occurring currently mid morning through mid afternoon. Scuds/Sow Bugs: A constant food source in the moss beds, especially in Section A. Recommended Flies Nymphs (Sub-surface) Scuds/Sows: #18-22 (Olive, Grey, Tan, Rainbow) . Midges: #18-22 (Black and Copper Zebra, Bling Midge). Psuedos: #18-20 (Black back Barr Emerger) Dries (Surface) Tricos: #20-24 (Chubby Trico, Black midge patters also work). Psuedos: #20-22 (Comparadun olive/gray, Low water Baetis, Mother Shucker). Ants/Beetles/Crickets: #14-18 (Bionic Ant, Flying Ant, Spruce Beetle, Para Cricket) Big Terrestials: #8-12 (Chubby Chernyobyl, Foam PMX, Water Walker) Streamers Articulated Patterns: (Goldie, Dungeon, Circus Peanut) Woolly Buggers: #6-10 (Black, Olive, gold)
Location Area Small Streams Overview Small Streams across the state are at varying levels of fishability. Anything at low elevation and that's not a tailwater is too warm by midday. Anything that's upper elevation though these are getting close as well, or is a tailwater is in prime condition right now! Carry a stream thermometer and have a backup plan! Location Weber River Overview The Weber is still at a healthy flow of 240cfs. Caddis and PMDs are the main hatch bugs, but hopers are the main attraction. Latest Flows ~240 CFS Fishing conditions Good! Nymphing has been more productive on most days but there has been some dry fly opportunities. Caddis in the evening has been the most productive with mid day PMDs close behind. On the warmer windy days there has been occasion hopper activity. On warm dry days the hopper fishing is picking up! Current Hatches Caddis: #14-18 (mid-day onward will be the best time) PMDs: #16-20 (all day) Best Time Of Day 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
