Middle Provo River Fishing Report 09/3/2019

Location

Middle Provo River

Overview

The Middle Provo flow steady at ~275 cfs. This is still a fishy flow. Fishing both a nymph rig or dry fly fishing can be productive.

Overall the fishing is good. However, some days are better than others.  Dry fly fishing might not be the most productive all day, but when the PMDs hatch in the afternoon it should be better. Also try throwing a hopper. Nymphing will likely be your most productive method. Use midges and caddis nymphs in the mornings, and wait until you see PMDs to switch it up.

Fishing is great. Dry fly fishing might not be the most productive all day, but when the fish are hitting up top give it a try. They can be picky so make sure you are using lighter tippet. As always, nymphing will likely be your most productive method.

Middle Provo River Fishing Report 07/03/2019

Location

Middle Provo River

Overview

The Middle Provo flow is trending down. As of right now it is coming out of the dam at ~990 cfs. This flow is still a bit swift so continue to use caution when wading.

Fishing is getting better overall. Dry fly fishing might not be the most productive, but give it a try in the slower water if you are determined to fish up top. Nymphing will likely be your most productive method. The fish are hugging the bank in most spots, so consider taking a step back and fish closer to the sides.

Middle Provo River Fishing Report 06/24/2019

Location

Middle Provo River

Overview

The Middle Provo went up again since our last report, but its trending back down and right now it is at ~1500 cfs so continue to be cautious when near the river. This flow is very high and the water is swift.

Dry fly fishing, if any, will only be in the slow water. The fish are holding anywhere they can catch a break from the flow, so nymph in slower water as well. Keep fishing the flies from your “junk food collection” AKA Sow Bugs, San Juan Worms, Wigglies, Squirmies, Scuds, and some midges or caddis nymphs.

Small and Medium sized streamers tend to work when the water is higher.

Middle Provo River Fishing Report 06/05/2019

Location

Middle Provo River

Overview

Runoff is here. The Middle Provo is at ~950 cfs so be very cautious. This flow is very high and the water is swift.

Dry fly fishing on the Middle is sparse at this flow. Nymphing has been decent. Add more weight to your rig to drop those flies down. Slower water will be your friend. Try fishing the flies from your “junk food collection” AKA Sow Bugs, San Juan Worms, Wigglies, Squirmies, Scuds, and some midges or caddis nymphs.

Small and Medium sized streamers have been working on cloudy days or when the water is slightly off color.
